I have read an article on "Study Hack" (link) about starting Saturday Morning Projects (SMP's) in order to make our lives interesting and worthwhile. While the article targets audience at school I believe it applies to everyone. According to the author, an SMP should be something along the line of:
"When explained to someone for the first time is likely to elicit a response of “wow!’".
While I'm not after the "wow" factor I agree one needs an SMP to constantly challenge and excite himself/herself in order to maintain mental sharpness.
And the timing of this project - Saturday Morning - cannot be better. School/work during the week drains us enough and leaves us with just enough energy to wind-down from a hectic day and perform The Big Three S's (i.e. Shit, shower & shave). Saturday morning is just great as you're fully rested (assuming you haven't blindly partied the previous night), your brain is sharp, and you're still fully aware of new things/ideas picked up during the week and have yet to act upon.
Life is short. As a friend of mine said, if we live 80 years, that's 29,200 days. Most of us have already lived 30% of it. And if we are looking at functional years, we have consumed even more of it.
Start something. Create something new. Anything. It will give you just the ups and downs you need to make you more efficient. Progress made on these projects is also more visible (as compared to your day-job) that makes your life interesting and gives you higher purpose.
